3 types of breakfast

Dr. Norihiro Sato, a renowned cancer expert from Japan, revealed that choosing food and drinks for breakfast can affect your health in the long run. Some are popular but are considered high-risk foods that may increase your chances of getting cancer.

1. Foods high in refined carbohydrates

If you want to reduce your cancer risk through diet, you should be careful when choosing your main foods, especially products that contain flour as the main ingredient.

Professor Norihiro Sato from the Faculty of Medical Technology, Teikyu University, Fukuoka, Japan, said that consuming foods high in refined carbohydrates, such as bread, white rice and noodles, can cause blood sugar levels to spike rapidly.

Long-term high blood sugar levels not only stimulate excessive insulin secretion, causing inflammation in cells, but also increase the risk of pancreatic, liver, colon, and breast cancers.

In addition, research has found that giving cancer cells glucose (sugar) increases their chances of growing and spreading, and cancer patients with high blood sugar levels have a lower survival rate than those with normal blood sugar levels.

Therefore, controlling the consumption of refined carbohydrates not only helps control weight but can also reduce the risk of cancer. Especially those who have a habit of eating bread, white rice, and noodles for breakfast should pay attention to controlling the amount of food appropriately.

2. Processed food

Processed foods are popular for breakfast because they’re quick and convenient. But they’re often loaded with additives to improve flavor and extend shelf life. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified them as a Category 1 carcinogen. Meaning there’s “sufficient evidence that they’re probably carcinogenic to humans,” on par with cigarettes and asbestos.

Dr. Norihiro Sato emphasizes that while eating highly processed foods does not mean that you will immediately get cancer, you should avoid consuming them in excess. If you have a habit of eating these foods for breakfast every day. Reduce the frequency and opt for foods with natural and fresh protein sources for better health.

3. Sugary drinks mixed with whipped cream

Smoothies topped with whipped cream, toasted breadcrumbs or other fancy garnishes are often a popular breakfast drink. But experts say they are actually a “cancer trap.”

Sugary drinks can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels and contribute to obesity. Which is a risk factor for several cancers. A study published in the BMJ found that drinking an extra 100ml of sugar per day increased overall cancer risk by 18% and breast cancer risk by 22%. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends keeping added sugar intake to less than 5% of total calories each day (about 25g or 6 teaspoons) for better health.

In addition, drinks with whipped cream also pose health risks. A study of more than 2,000 colon cancer patients found that those who consumed low-fat dairy products had a 40% lower risk of their cancer returning. While those who consumed regular dairy products had a 60% higher risk.

Dr. Norihiro Sato believes that the health effects of dairy products can vary depending on the fat content of the product. So whipped cream or high-fat dairy products should be avoided.

Many people believe that drinking fruit juice or smoothies for breakfast is good for your health. But in fact, the fructose in fruits, if consumed in excess, can lead to pancreatic disease. In particular, smoothies with added sugar or yogurt can destroy the fiber in fruits. Which not only makes the absorption of sugar faster. But also causes blood sugar levels to rise rapidly, affecting the glycogen stores in the liver and burdening the liver.
