Inaki Peña thanks Hansi Flick for his confidence in becoming Barcelona’s number one goalkeeper.
Inaki Peña, the 25-year-old goalkeeper, has revealed he is grateful for the trust of Hansi Flick after the German coach gave him the No.1 position since Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, Mundo Deportivo reported on Tuesday.
Flick has chosen Pena as Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper since Ter Stegen suffered a right knee injury that kept him out for a long time, although the Blaugrana have signed Wojciech Szczesny as an emergency signing, but the German has continued to back the 25-year-old to this day.
‘On a mental level I’m the same, but everything is increasing and especially when you play games you gain confidence. The first results I had when I was in goal were positive. I’m very grateful to Flick for the trust he showed me,’ said Peña.
The 25-year-old had a difficult time filling in for Ter Stegen last season but is delighted to have the chance to play for the Blaugrana again.
‘Last year’s Promotion ufabet Super Cup final hurt us. In the group, the season was very difficult and when I played, it was the decisive moment of the season. But last year, I don’t even remember it. On a personal level, I played very well. It is important to play games continuously and I think you can see that.’
