Aston Villa striker Jon Duran has revealed his delight at the chances of qualifying for the Champions League after beating Leipzig and reiterated his love of competing for a place with Ollie Watkins.
Duran showed his true potential again as a substitute, scoring a superb goal to give his side a 2-1 lead over Leipzig in Tuesday’s 3-2 Champions League win.
After failing to score in November, Duran has scored in back-to-back games and calls from fans for him to start more often are getting louder.
That is in part to the form of Ollie Watkins; the England striker played well in Leipzig, but he has scored just once from open play in his last 11 games.
This season Watkins has scored seven goals in all competitions, three fewer than Duran despite playing almost double the minutes.
The latest victory takes Unai Emery’s side to 13 points from six games, with their chances of qualifying bright as they close in on leaders Liverpool.
“We work hard as a team and it’s my job to score goals,” said the forward, who turns 21 on Friday. “The important thing is to win and get three points away from home.”
“I’m happy to be here and I love ยูฟ่าเบท competing with Ollie Watkins for places. When my time comes I hope I can step up and help the team.”
“We are happy to be where we are and we are close to qualifying, so we are happy,”
