Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was delighted to be named Player of the Month for his side’s win at Girona but the most important thing was the team’s three points that made it all the way to their Champions League triumph.

Liverpool maintained their excellent record of winning their first six games in the UEFA Champions League after beating Girona 1-0 thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty, but it was Andy Robertson who took home the Player of the Match award. 

The attacking full-back said: “We should have controlled the game more. We shouldn’t have left too much space. We should have pressed more aggressively and done better, especially in the first half.”

“It’s a nice bonus to get the player of the match award. I think I’ve only ever received it once before.”

“It’s nice to get the recognition, but for me it’s about the team, for me it’s about the three points. With six wins from six games, we can’t ask for more.”

We got a clean sheet, we won the game. We can play a lot better than we did, but three points is crucial, especially away from home in the Champions League.”
